TMC leader Kunal Ghosh quits party posts, says 'I am a misfit in the system'

Kolkata/IBNS: Trinamool Congress (TMC) spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, who was at the forefront in defending the West Bengal ruling party over Sandeshkhali case, quit two party posts on Friday.

Ghosh posted on X, "I am not keen to continue as the party's state general secretary and spokesperson. I am a misfit in the system. I am not able to work"

"I will continue to be a leader of the party. Please do not spread the speculation of my defection..."

Earlier in the day, Ghosh, a former journalist, changed his X handle bio to "Journalist" and "Social Activist".

On Thursday, Ghosh slammed one of his party colleagues for allegedly being "lobbyist" and "selfish".

"The leader is incapable, lobbyist and selfish. For the whole year, he will cheat and then win elections and fulfil personal interests riding on the emotions towards Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee and other workers. This can't go on," Ghosh said in an X post.

In a follow up post on X, Ghosh made a veiled attack on one of his party colleagues.

He wrote, "Narendra Modi made ugly allegations against TMC in Bengal. He could have been opposed with logic. But the Lok Sabha leaders of two different political parties are close to the Prime Minister. Modi uses them in two different ways. One of the two surrendered to the Prime Minister getting respite from the Rose Valley case."

Ghosh was at the forefront in defending TMC, which faced massive criticisms after several women from Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas accused now arrested and suspended local party strongman Sheikh Shahjahan and his aides of land grabbing and sexual abuse.

The incident has apparently given a boost to the opposition parties, particularly BJP, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, which are expected to be held in April-May.
