'Trinamool Congress now a private company': BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari

Kolkata/IBNS: Barely a few days after quitting the Trinamool Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday called the ruling party of West Bengal a "private company" with no discipline.

"The party which I was doing is now a private company. It has no discipline... It is following the footsteps of the Left... I feel ashamed to think that I had worked for the party for 21 years," Adhikari said, after being felicitated by his colleagues.

Heaping praises on his new party, he said, "The BJP is a party in true sense. It has discipline, nationalism, belief in diversity."

"We will have to hand over West Bengal to Narendra Modi," the former right-hand man of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, eyeing the 2021 state polls.

However, the Trinamool preferred not to give weightage to the words of Adhikari, who was the architect of the 2007 Nandigram land movement which helped Banerjee to become the CM four years later.

"Any block president of the Trinamool will respond to his words. We can't go on replying to every thing uttered by the BJP men," senior Trinamool leader Partha Chatterjee said.

Adhikari had joined the BJP last Saturday in the presence of Union Home Minister and BJP strongman, Amit Shah.

Apart from the former Nandigram MLA, former Trinamool MLA and BJP leader, Sunil Mondal, was also felicitated by the saffron party.

A major chaos broke out when several Trinamool workers blocked Mondal's entry into BJP's election office in Hastings though police later dispersed the protesters.

Trinamool MP Saugata Roy called the protests as a "spontaneous outrage" against Mondal as he is a turncoat.
