Jalaun (UP)/IBNS/UNI: An undergraduate student was shot dead as she was returning home after appearing in an examination in the Ait area of Jalaun district here in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, police sources said.

Police sources said Roshni Ahirwar (20), a resident of Aindha village, was a Bachelor of Arts (BA) first-year student at Ram Lakhan Patel degree college.

"Around 11:40 am while Roshni was returning home after appearing in the examination she was shot by two motorcycle-borne assailants in her head from the close range at Kotra trisection," they said.

Police sources said Roshni died on the spot.

"The local residents attempted to nab the assailants but they managed to flee the spot. During this, the assailants left the firearm on the spot," they said.

Roshni's father Man Singh Ahirwar said his son dropped Roshni at the college in the morning.

He said after the exam Roshni called and said she had left for home but was shot dead near Kotra trisection.

He said her elder daughter was also a BA final year student in the same college, but she didn't go due to a holiday. He said that normally both the sisters used to go to college together.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Iraj Raja said, "A student was shot dead while she was returning after appearing in the exam."

"Some concrete evidence has been found against the assailants and they will be arrested soon. A case has been lodged on the complaint of the family members," he said.
