Veteran singer Asha Bhosle hospitalised in Mumbai with 'extreme exhaustion, chest infection'

Mumbai/IBNS: Veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle has been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai after experiencing health complications.

The 92-year-old singer was hospitalised on Saturday night, prompting widespread attention from fans and the music fraternity.

Family shares health update

An update on her condition was shared by her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, through a social media post.

She said that Asha Bhosle had been admitted due to extreme exhaustion and a chest infection.

The family confirmed that treatment is ongoing and requested privacy while the singer receives medical care.

Further updates are expected as her condition progresses.

A career spanning decades

Asha Bhosle, one of India’s most celebrated playback singers, has had a career spanning more than eight decades.

She began her journey in 1943 with the Marathi film Majha Bal and went on to become a defining voice in Indian cinema.

Her repertoire includes widely recognised songs such as Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, Jaiye Aap Kahan Jayenge, Rangeela Re, and Sharara Sharara.

Over time, she expanded her musical range, performing across genres, including classical compositions and ghazals such as Dil Cheez Kya Hai.

Continued performances and public presence

Even in recent years, Asha Bhosle has remained active in the music scene.

In 2023, she marked her 90th birthday with a live concert in Dubai, performing on stage for extended durations.

In 2024, she drew attention for performing the popular track Tauba Tauba, originally sung by Karan Aujla, during a concert appearance.

The performance, which included recreating signature dance steps from the film Bad Newz, gained significant attention online.

Awards and recognition

Throughout her career, Asha Bhosle has received numerous honours, including two National Film Awards.

She was conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, recognising her contribution to Indian music.
