West Bengal Guv Jagdeep Dhankhar to meet Amit Shah today

New Delhi/IBNS: Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Governor of poll-bound West Bengal, will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital Delhi on Thursday.

Dhankhar, who is on a two-day visit to Delhi, will return to Kolkata on Friday.

A tweet by the Governor reads, "West Bengal Governor Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar would be on an official visit to Delhi from Oct 28-30. Governor Dhankhar leaves for Delhi on the evening of Oct 28 and returns to Kolkata on Oct 30. His engagements include calling on the Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah on Oct 29."

Reportedly, Dhankhar, a critic of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in the state, will tour Darjeeling, the northern part of West Bengal, in November.

Dhankhar's meeting with Shah and his supposed visit to north Bengal have gained significance as the eastern state will plunge into an electoral battle in six-seven months' time.

Very recently, Darjeeling leader Bimal Gurung has left Shah's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led coalition and vowed to support West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee in the 2021 state election.

However, the TMC has not paid much attention to Dhankhar''s visit to Shah.

"All Governors report to the Union Home Minister at regular intervals. Earlier Governors had also done the same thing. There is no political significance to it," TMC's senior leader and Lok Sabha MP, Saugata Roy told various media.

Stating the law and order situation in West Bengal has gone for a toss, Shah in a recent television interview said political parties have every right to demand President's rule but the Indian government will work as per constitutional norms, ground reports and report of Governor.
