WhatsApp to introduce additional biometric security feature for desktop users

| @indiablooms | Jan 29, 2021, at 06:29 am

New Delhi, Jan 28 (UNI) Messaging mobile App WhatsApp on Thursday said it will be bringing a biometric security feature for users who want to link their account with a computer.

"In order to link WhatsApp Web or Desktop to your WhatsApp account, you will now be asked to use your face or fingerprint unlock on your phone, before scanning a QR code from the phone to link your device. This will limit the chance that a housemate or officemate (when we have those again) can link devices to your WhatsApp account without you," the Facebook-owned company said in a blogpost.

WhatsApp said it cannot access the biometric information stored in the device's operating system.

With the new feature, the user will receive information whenever a user login at the desktop.

The new feature will be added in coming weeks alongside a visual redesign to the WhatsApp Web page on phones, the company said.
