Whole country knows Modi is a champion of corruption: Rahul Gandhi

Lucknow/New Delhi/IBNS: Congress top leader Rahul Gandhi trained his guns at Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighting his alliance with the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh.

In a joint press conference with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on a day when Ram Navami is being celebrated, Rahul said the upcoming Lok Sabha elections will be a clash of ideologies.

He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its parent ideologue Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of destroying the Constitution.

Modi said, "This election is an election of ideology. On one hand RSS-BJP is trying to destroy the Constitution. On the other hand, the INDIA alliance is trying to save him.

"There are 2-3 major issues in the elections – unemployment, inflation, participation. But the BJP is busy misleading people 24 hours a day. They do not talk about the issues."

The Congress leader raised the electoral bond issue in targeting the Prime Minister, who defended the scheme which has been scrapped by the Supreme Court.

He said, "The Prime Minister says that the system of electoral bonds was introduced for transparency. If this was so then why did the Supreme Court cancel that system?

"Immediately after a company gets the contract, it makes a donation to the BJP. The electoral bond Scheme is the biggest corruption in the world. The whole country knows that the Prime Minister is a champion of corruption."

BJP will be wiped out, claims Akhilesh Yadav

Akhilesh, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, has claimed the BJP, which has swept the Lok Sabha polls in the state on the last two occasions, will be wiped out this time hoping for a brighter prospect of the opposition front, INDIA.

"BJP is going to be wiped out in UP from Ghaziabad to Ghazipur," Akhilesh said and added, "Everything said by BJP turned out to be false. Neither the income of farmers doubled, nor the youth got employment, the promises of development are also unfulfilled."

On electoral bonds, which Modi claims could keep a track on money given to the political parties, the SP chief said, "Electoral bonds have exposed them. BJP has become a warehouse of corrupt people. Loot and lies have become the identity of BJP."

Uttar Pradesh will go to polls in seven phases from April 19 to June 1.
