Woman commits suicide after being assaulted in kangaroo court in Siliguri

A woman allegedly committed suicide in West Bengal's Siliguri region after she was assaulted during a 'kangaroo court'.

The incident took place in Bakravita area of Fulbari I Gram Panchayat and triggered widespread outrage.

The woman, who had reportedly left her husband for an extramarital affair, returned home after being missing for about eight days, reported Siliguri Times.

After she returned, she was allegedly beaten up by some women in the area during the 'Kangaroo court'.

She later allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticides.

Her husband claimed that the assault during the ‘Salishi Sabha’ led to her suicide, the news portal reported.

Police have arrested four people in connection with the incident so far.
