Kolkata votes to elect new corporation amid violence

Amid incidents of violence and allegations of coercion, firing and booth capturing, Kolkata witnessed daylong balloting to elect a new KMC (Kolkata Municipal Corporation) on Saturday (April 18, 2015). Polling was held in 144 wards The Opposition alleged rampant violence in the polls against the ruling TMC which rubbished the charges. The Election Commission admitted they received several complaints. A sub-inspector of police also sustained bullet injury even as the Opposition alleged inaction by the police forces. Ninety other municipalities in West Bengal will go to polls next week. The civic polls are seen as a semifinal before the assembly polls in the state next year. Images by IBNS

Kolkata. Apr 17 (IBNS) Moonwalk Production presented a special screening of “Ek Adhbut Dakshina- Gurudakshina" at the INOX theatre in Quest Mall, Kolkata on Friday. Actress Rupa Ganguli, actor Rajeev Pillai and director, Kiran Phadnis, who makes a directorial debut with this film, were present at the screening. Filmmaker Kiran Phadnis had invited guests from different walks of life for the first screening.
