Actress Shammi Aunty dies, Bollywood celebrities express sadness

Mumbai, Mar 6 (IBNS):  Actress Nargis Rabadi, popularly known as Shammi Aunty, passed away on Monday.

She was 89.

Shammi aunty was equally popular in small screen as well as in the world of cinema.

Informing the death of the actress, fashion designer Sandeep Khosla posted on Instagram, " wewillmissyou #you #will#always #remain #special #to #us #RIP#ShammiAunty #1929-2018 #loveyou#abujanisandeepkhosla #bestfriend #guide#family."

Social media has been flooding with messages with several top Bollywood celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan, mourning her death.

" T 2735 - Prayers and fond remembrances for Shammi Aunty .. so dear to us as family .. lost to us today .. some early pictures as a young entrant to films .. and one with Nargis ji at an event ; Shammi Aunty's real name was also Nargis !," tweeted Bachchan.

Actor Rishi Kapoor posted: "R I P. Shammi Aunty bids good bye."

Actor Anil Kapoor remarked: "A great actress, always happy & smiling...Shammi ji will be missed...I was lucky enough to have worked with her in Eeshwar & she was a joy to be around...My condolences to her loved ones."

Actress Shabana Azmi posted: "RIP Shammiji."

Shammi  was known for her performances in films as supporting actress like Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai, Half Ticket, Halaku, Samaj Ko Badal Dalo,Khuda Gawah, Coolie No. 1, Gopi Kishan and Hum Saath Saath Hain and films with Rajesh Khanna like The Train, Aanchal, Kudrat, Red Rose, Awara Baap and Swarg.

Later, from 1986 till 1998, she appeared in many popular television serials such as Dekh Bhai Dekh, Zabaan Sambhal Ke, Shriman Shrimati, Kabhi Yeh Kabhi Woh and Filmi Chakkar.
