Boycott trend extremely filthy, has vested interests: Babul Supriyo who plays 'good politician' in Kaushik Ganguly's Lokkhi Chhele

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Minister and singer-actor Babul Supriyo has lashed out at the recent trends of boycotting films calling it "extremely filthy".

Speaking to the media Wednesday, Supriyo said, "All these are stemming from very small and filthy thinking. Initially we thought these trends won't impact the films but it's impacting now as evident in Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha.

"Already we have seen the audience is to some extent reluctant to go to the cinema halls with the advent of OTT since the pandemic."

"The boycott trend is extremely filthy because Bollywood or Indian films used to entertain people. I will appeal to the audience to realise that the boycott trend is done with vested interests through money," he added.

Supriyo made the remark while joining the cast of national award winning filmmaker Kaushik Ganguly's Lokkhi Chhele, where the singer-turned politician has also acted, at Someplace Else in Kolkata Wednesday.

Regarding his character in the film, Supriyo said, "I have played the role of a good politician."

The singer-actor-politician Wednesday also entertained the audience with a music concert later.

Lokkhi Chhele is centred on a young doctor (played by Ujaan Ganguly) who fights against the dark side of blind religious faith.

Along with Ujaan, the film also stars actor Churni Ganguly in the lead.
