Seoul: Internationally acclaimed South Korean group BTS reached one more major landmark as its key member Jin commenced his mandatory military service amid tight security at an army training center in South Korea.

The 30-year-old became the first member of the boy band BTS to join the military, reports Yonhap news agency.

The vocalist quietly entered an Army training center in Yeoncheon, 60 kilometers north of Seoul, in a car without a farewell event for fans, the South Korean news agency reported.

The other members of the group are RM, Suga, Jimin, J-hope, V and Jungkook.

Numerous banners were placed on the way as Jin and other recruits reached the base.

Placards reading "We welcome the enlistment of BTS' Kim Seok-jin and all other military personnel" and balloons were hung there, reports Yonhap.
