Mumbai/IBNS: Veteran Bollywood actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Hema Malini has completed an illustrious 60 years in Indian cinema, a milestone that was celebrated at a grand Diamond Jubilee event attended by members of the film fraternity.

During the celebrations, the legendary actor was asked who she would like to see portray her on the big screen if a biopic on her life were ever made. Without hesitation, Hema Malini picked Bollywood star Deepika Padukone.

Speaking about her choice, Hema Malini said, as quoted by The Indian Express: "If she wants, she can do it. Anybody can do it. Deepika is a beautiful, talented girl."

Her remarks have sparked excitement among fans, especially at a time when biopics on iconic personalities continue to dominate Bollywood.

A Long-Standing Connection

Interestingly, Deepika Padukone has shared a special connection with Hema Malini over the years.

Deepika had launched filmmaker-author Ram Kamal Mukherjee's biography on the veteran actor, titled Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl. According to reports, it was Hema Malini herself who chose Deepika to unveil the book.

There is another interesting link between the two stars. In Farah Khan's 2007 blockbuster Om Shanti Om, one of Deepika's dual roles—Shantipriya—was inspired by Hema Malini's screen persona.

The character was affectionately referred to as the "Dream Girl," a title synonymous with Hema Malini throughout her career.

Six Decades of Stardom

Hema Malini made her Hindi film debut in 1968 with Sapno Ka Saudagar opposite Raj Kapoor. She went on to become one of Indian cinema's biggest female stars during the 1970s and 1980s, delivering memorable performances in films such as Seeta Aur Geeta, Sholay, Dream Girl, Satte Pe Satta, Kranti, Trishul, Baghban, and The Burning Train.

Known for her versatility, grace and classical dance background, Hema Malini earned the title "Dream Girl", which became an enduring part of her identity in Indian cinema.

Apart from acting, she is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer, filmmaker, producer and politician. She has been serving as the BJP Member of Parliament from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, and continues to remain active in public life while occasionally appearing in films and cultural events.
