Kolkata: Filmmaker Bappaditya Bandopadhyay passes away

Kolkata, Nov 8 (IBNS): Bengali film director Bappaditya Bandopadhyay on Saturday evening died of multiple organ failure at a private hospital in Kolkata.

Few months earlier, Bappaditya Bandopadhyay contracted pneumonia while shooting a film at Cherrapunjee in Meghalaya.

He was later admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata with acute pneumonia and was being treated there for last one and half months.

His health condition deteriorated on Friday and was shifted to ventilation.

Around 8:45 pm on Saturday, the actor, who was in his 40s, passed away, reports said.

Bappaditya Bandopadhyay was awarded the 'Most Promising Director' award in 2003 by Bengal Film Journalists' Association (BFJA).

Some of the films directed by him are Samadarpan (1999), Houseful (2009), Kagojer Bou (2011), Elar Chaar Adhyay (2012), Nayika Sambad (2013).

Mourning his death, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee tweeted: "Saddened to hear about the passing away of filmmaker Bappaditya Bandopadhyay at a young age. Cndolence to his family and friends."

He will be cremated on Sunday.
