Netizens were found irked by a scene in Christopher Nolan's latest released movie Oppenheimer where actor Cillian Murphy, who is portraying the titular character of physicist J Robert Oppenheimer, could be seen reading the Bhagavad Gita while having sex.

Several netizens to the scene and even criticised the Indian Censor Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) for allowing the retention of it in the movie.

A Twitter handle named Indian-Americans posted: "Absolutely disgusting. We are calling upon Hindus to boycott and protest this film! It has a scene associating the Gita with sex scene. India’s censor allowed it! They need to reverse this. They would never allow Quran or China to be shown like this."

Another Twitter user Shan said: "#Oppenheimer movie, hero reading Sanskrit Bhagavad gita while sex scene, it's completely defame Indian culture & religion, this scene need to be removed or BAN this movie in India @narendramodi@AmitShah @ARanganathan72 @jsaideepak @rishibagree @BeerBicepsGuy @vivekagnihotri."

Mayur, another netizen, said: " You are having a sex scene and at same time reading the #BhagavadGita What crap is this @Chris_Nolann ? You have clearly manipulated the scripted history.I left the movie instantly after that scene. Shame."

Oppenheimer released on Friday.

The movie is directed by Christopher Nolan.

Based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, the film chronicles the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist who was pivotal in developing the first nuclear weapons as part of the Manhattan Project, and thereby ushering in the Atomic Age.

Cillian Murphy stars as the titular character, with Emily Blunt as Oppenheimer's wife, Katherine "Kitty" Oppenheimer, Matt Damon as General Leslie Groves, Oppenheimer's military handler, and Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, a senior member of the United States Atomic Energy Commission. Other members of the supporting cast include Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh.
