Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead in their Los Angeles home, and their son, Nick Reiner, has been arrested on suspicion of murder, according to authorities.

In a statement, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said: "As a result of the initial investigation, it was determined that the Reiners were victims of homicide. The investigation further revealed that Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of Robert and Michele Reiner, was responsible for their deaths."

Police confirmed that Nick Reiner remains in custody, booked for murder, with no bail.

Law enforcement sources told ABC News that Nick was not at home when his parents were discovered stabbed to death. Investigators believe he left the residence after the stabbings. He was later located and arrested near the University of Southern California.

According to sources, the Reiners’ daughter discovered her parents’ bodies on Sunday. The previous night, Rob and Nick Reiner reportedly had an argument at a holiday party they attended, where Nick was observed acting strangely.

As reported by BBC, Nick Reiner had previously spoken publicly about his struggles with addiction and homelessness. His experiences formed the basis of the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which he made with his father in 2015.

Born in New York City, Rob Reiner was an acclaimed actor, director, producer, and activist. He first gained fame portraying Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the groundbreaking sitcom All in the Family (1971–1979).

Transitioning to film, Reiner, who was 78 at the time of his death, became a celebrated director with classics including This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally… (1989), and A Few Good Men (1992). His films are known for their blend of humor, heart, and social commentary, leaving a lasting impact on audiences and critics alike.

Beyond filmmaking, Reiner was an active producer and a committed political and social activist, frequently using his platform to support progressive causes. He was the son of legendary actor Carl Reiner, continuing a remarkable Hollywood legacy.

Rob Reiner’s contributions to television, film, and activism have cemented his reputation as one of the most versatile and influential figures in the entertainment industry.
