Urmila Matondkar supports SRK over 'spitting' controversy, says we have deteriorated as a society

Mumbai/IBNS: Bollywood actress-politician Urmila Matondkar has come out in support of superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who has been accused of spitting at late singer Lata Mangeshkar's funeral.

"As a society, we have deteriorated so much that we think praying is spitting. You are talking about an actor who has represented the country on various international platforms.

"Politics has reached such low levels and it's really sad," Matondkar, who belongs to the Shiv Sena, said as quoted by India Today.

Khan, who was accompanied by his manager Pooja Dadlani, went to the funeral on Sunday to pay his tribute to the icon's mortal remains.

The 56-year-old actor headed to the place where the mortal remains were kept, read 'dua' and then presumably blown out air from his mouth as per the customs of Islam.

Several Twitterati including members from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused the hugely popular star of "spitting" in front of Mangeshkar's mortal remains.

However, the practice of blowing air from the mouth was supposedly misunderstood as pointed out by the other section of Twitterati.
