14 promising names of Indian football to don Atlético de Kolkata jersey

Kolkata, July 23 (IBNS): On the second day of the two-day domestic draft process of the Indian Super League’s inaugural edition, the Kolkata Franchise of the League, Atlético de Kolkata bagged seven more promising names from Indian football, completing its quota of selecting 14 domestic players.

The Kolkata franchise has signed on today Sanju Pradhan, Kingshuk Debnath, Lester Fernandez, Subhasish R Chowdhury, Baljit Sahni, Climax Lawrence and Nallappan Mohanraj from a pool consisting of 42 domestic players through its seven rounds of player draft picks. Now it would look forward to the international players’ draft scheduled next month featuring 49 international names from the game, to fortify its team bench further.

Atlético de Kolkata has already roped in Arnab Mondal, Mohammed Rafi, Mohammed Rafique, Rakesh Masih, Cavin Lobo, Biswajit Saha and Denzil Franco yesterday. The Franchise also has Luis Garcia as its marquee player, Borja Fernandes as the team’s first signed in player, Antonio Lopez Habas as its Head Coach and Jose Ramirez Barreto as the Assistant Coach.

Utsav Parekh, Co-owner, Atlético de Kolkata, Chairman, SMIFS Capital Markets Ltd said, “We are ecstatic with the choices made on day two of the draft and are on course towards constructing favourable bench strength. Our Head Coach and other officials involved in the making of a strong team have chosen the best from the available pool of players which will have the right mix of youth and experience.”   

Atlético de Kolkata is the first franchise that was launched from amongst the eight city franchisees of the Indian Super League.

Atlético de Kolkata will compete against the seven teams in Indian Super League.
