Bangladesh cricketer sent to jail

Dhaka, Jan 8 (IBNS): The preparation of Bangladesh cricket team for the World Cup received a jolt as a court in Dhaka on Thursday sent cricketer Rubel Hossain to jail in connection with a rape case filed by film actress Naznin Akter Happy.

The pacer had surrendered before the court.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)  has announced the cricketer in their 15-member squad for the World Cup.

"It is too early to reach any conclusion. We have to wait. This is a very sensitive issue and a complicated one for us as it's totally the player's personal matter. At this moment I cannot say how long we will wait for him, but if he fails to join the squad in time, we have to go for a replacement," BCB's chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.

The World Cup, which is being hosted by Australia and New Zealand this time, will commence from next month.
