BCCI likely to rope in MS Dhoni as India set for T20 team overhaul

The Indian cricket board (BCCI) is planning to rope in cricket great Mahendra Singh Dhoni for a specific role as the national T20 side is set for an overhaul following an embarrassing exit from the World Cup earlier this month.

As per various news reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India or BCCI is planning to appoint Dhoni as the Director of Cricket or the head coach.

In that case, current head coach Rahul Dravid will be discharged from his T20 duty.

However, Dhoni will have to retire first from BCCI's T20 league IPL before assuming any post in the national side.

Reports also claim the two World Cup-winning skipper is likely to play the last season of the league in 2023.

Meanwhile, the BCCI, which has swung into action soon after India's World Cup exit, is likely to appoint Hardik Pandya as T20 skipper, replacing Rohit Sharma, whose performance has come under the scanner.

The world's richest cricket board, which is not intending to disturb the present ODI and Test teams combinations, is aiming to rebuild the squad for the next T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in 2024.

India were routed by England by 10 wickets in the T20 World Cup semi final, continuing the nine-year international trophy drought.

India had won the last International Cricket Council or ICC trophy in the form of Champions Trophy way back in 2013 under the captaincy of Dhoni, who is the most successful limited overs skipper the country has ever produced.

Dhoni has won both the T20 and 50-over World Cups in 2007 and 2011 respectively.
