Chilean football set for July return

| @indiablooms | Jun 10, 2020, at 09:22 am

Santiago/Xinhua: Chilean football could resume in the last week of July under plans being drafted by the National Professional Football Association (ANFP).

The presidents of Chile's top flight clubs and ANFP officials discussed a roadmap for the sport's return during a video conference call, according to widespread local media reports.

Domestic competitions can only restart on the provison that the COVID-19 pandemic is under control and that clubs have at least three weeks of full training before their first matches, reports said.

Clubs have tentatively set an early July target for the resumption of training.

Chile's top football division was suspended in mid-March, after seven rounds of the national championship.

The South American nation has more than 142,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and almost 2,300 deaths.
