London/IBNS:  Former Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has tested positive for COVID 19.

The footballer is now associated with Chinese club Shandong Luneng.

Confirming the matter, he tweeted: " Dear friends, I have been tested for coronavirus and my test result is positive. Thanks to the fans, medical staff and the club for their care and attention. I will follow the treatment and hope to return to the game as soon as possible. Please everyone stay safe."

The 32-year-old former Belgian international reportedly tested positive for coronavirus on March 20 after taking a train to Jinan, and has been put into medical isolation, reported China's Xinhua news agency.

Several popular football figures have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in recent days which include names like Juventus players Paulo Dybala and Blaise Matuidi, and former AC Milan defender Paolo Maldini.
