Guprtill's knock was one of the best in ODI format: McCullum

Wellington, New Zealand, Mar 21(IBNS): New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum on Saturday called Martin Guptill's unbeaten 237 knock was one of the best innings played in the 50-over format.

"The innings we witnessed is probably one of the best we have ever seen in this format," Brendon McCullum said after the  match.

"Sublime. Just sublime. I will never forget it. Everybody here the same. The way the team is structured allows me a bit of license at the start. Some days it comes off, some days it doesn't, but that's the way it is. We need to play aggressive cricket to compete with the world's best sides, and I am sure the crowd is enjoying the way we are playing," he said.

New Zealand defeated West Indies by 143 runs in the last quarter final match to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Guptill, who became the only New Zealander to score a double century in ODI, was declared man of the match.

He remained not out scoring a  tornado 237off 163 balls and built up a 243-run partnership with a supportive Ross Taylor even after skipper-opener Brendon Mccullum and Kane Williamson returned early to the pavilion scoring respectively 12 and 28.

In the semi-final New Zealand will take on South Africa while Australia and India will confront in another clash for a berth in the final.
