India look to seal berth in semis by defeating Bangladesh today

Birmingham, July 2 (IBNS): A day after suffering a defeat in the hands of host England, India are looking to seal a berth in the semi final of the World Cup by defeating Bangladesh here on Tuesday.

India have so far won five of seven matches they have played. One match was washed out due to rain.

The men-in-blue will come out to play against Bangladesh after getting widespread criticism for losing the match against England. Former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was heavily criticised not only by fans but also experts for his "lack of intent".

Former cricketers Sourav Ganguly, Naseer Hussain, Sanjay Manjrekar- who were the commentators in the previous match- were seen surprised by Dhoni's batting. Ganguly had termed Dhoni's batting as "inexplicable".

While India were slowly losing hope to win the match against England in a chase of 338 runs, Dhoni had failed to accelerate in the final overs and relied on singles instead. Eventually, Virat Kohli's men were defeated by 31 runs.

India are also hit with injury issues. After Shikhar Dhawan, now Vijay Shankar has also been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also missed a few matches due to niggles.

On the other hand, Bangladesh have a very thin chance to qualify for the semis.
