Kolkata/IBNS: The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by four runs in the final over thriller in its first IPL 2024 match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday.

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Batting first, KKR put a total of 208/7 runs on the scoreboard with Phil Salt's 54 and Andre Russell's unbeaten 64 knocks.

KKR batsmen Ramandeep Singh and Rinku Singh contributed 35 off 17 and 23 off 15 respectively.

However, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer got out for a duck.

T Natarajan picked 3/32 in four overs for Hyderabad. Two wickets were scalped by Markande and another by skipper Pat Cummins.

Chasing 209, Hyderabad openers Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma made a good start as the team did not lose a wicket before reaching 60 on the scoreboard in 5.2 overs.

With Heinrich Klaasen's 63 off 29 knock, SRH had almost reached their target, but could not make it in the last over and fell short of just four runs.

For KKR, Harshit Rana and Andre Russell took three and two wickets respectively, while two other bowlers -- Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine -- claimed one wicket each.

Andre Russell's all round performance earned him the player of the match award.

KKR will take on RCB in their next match in Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 29.
