Japan's Kei Nishikori defeats Ivo Karlovic to reach Australian Open third round

Melbourne, Jan 17 (IBNS):  Eighth seed Kei Nishikori reached the third round of the Australian Open by beating Ivo Karlovic here on Thursday.

Kei survived a massive response from Ivo who tried his best to rattle the Japanese player.

Kei defeated his opponent 6-3 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 5-7 7-6 (10-7).

The Japanese player took a two-set lead but Ivo served 59 aces and played strongly to give a tough challenge to the senior.

The match lasted for three hours and 48 minutes.
