Jennings' maiden ton pushes England towards big total

Mumbai, Dec 8 (IBNS): Debutant Keaton Jennings' maiden Test century has helped England put up a fluid display of batting against the Indian bowlers, here on Thursday, on day one of the fourth Test.

So far, England has put on 230 runs for the loss of four wickets.

Following the departure of Joe Root (21), Jennings and Moeen Ali had put on 94 for the third wicket.

Earlier in the day, English skipper Cook won the coin-toss and elected to bat first, adding 99 runs along with Jennings before the former departed for 46.

Cook was stumped by Parthiv Patel off Jadeja.

Root hit a boundary in his 41-ball stay at the crease and was later picked up by Ravichandran Ashwin.

Apart from the three scalps, it has all been England's day as their batsmen have feasted on a surface ideal for stroke making.

Ali (50) departed just after reaching his half-century, falling prey to Ashwin, and his partner too succumbed in the same over.

Jennings scored 112 runs off 219 deliveries, hitting 13 boundaries.

Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes are at the crease.
