Kanpur Test: New Zealand steady in run chase against India, 79/1 at lunch on day 5

Kanpur/IBNS: India returned to the change room empty handed at the close of the first session on day five of the inaugural Test as New Zealand scored 79/1 till the lunch break chasing a target of 284 here on Monday.

The only wicket in the form of Will Young (two off six) fell on Sunday.

Tom Latham (35 of 96) and William Somerville (36 off 109) are still at the crease.

The only Kiwi wicket was clinched by Ravichandran Ashwin.

After his debut Test hundred in the first innings, Shreyas Iyer scored a crucial 65 and Wriddhiman Saha slammed an unbeaten 61 on Sunday to take India's lead over the visitors to 283 in the second innings.

New Zealand are 205 runs away from their victory while India need nine wickets to upset the Kiwis.
