KKR start CLT20 campaign with victory

Hyderabad, Sept 17 (IBNS) IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders commenced their Champions League T20 campaign with a win as they defeated Chennai Super Kings by three wickets here on Wednesday.

Chasing a competitive, 157 for four, KKR reached 159 by losing seven wickets with six balls to spare.

KKR found themselves in trouble with half of the side already returning to the pavilion with only 51 on the scoreboard.

It was Netherlands cricketer Ryan ten Doeschate (51*) and West Indian Andre Russell (58) who turned the tides around KKR's favour.

Both the players perfectly handled the crisis situation as they posted 80 runs in he sixth wicket partnership to help the side reach the target.

Russel Russell hammered five sixes and four boundaries in his 25-ball knock while  Ryan smashed three boundaries and two over boundaries in his sensible knock to give their side the first win the tournament.

Ashish Nehra picked up four wickets including the Russell but it was not enough to clinch the match for CSK.

The top-order failed miserably with skipper Gautam Gambhir only contributing 6 with his bat.

CSK earlier posted 157 for four on the scoreboard.

MS Dhoni remained the top-scorer for the side with his unbeaten 35.

Piyush Chawla picked up two wickets for KKR.

KKR 159 for seven (R ten Doeschate 51 no, A Russell 58;  A Nehra 4-21)
