Kumar Sangakkara joins 14,000-run club

Sydney, Mar 8 (IBNS): Sri Lanka batsman Kumar Sangakkara touched the 14,000-run mark during a group stage match of the World Cup against Australia on Sunday.

Playing his 402nd match,  Sangakkara became the second batsman in the history of the game to touch the record.

He hammered 104 runs in the match. Australia, however, won the contest by 64 runs.

Sangakkara  has scored 14065 runs in his career so far.

Retired Indian batting icon Sachin Tendulkar tops the list of highest run makers in the 50-over format with his 18426 runs from 463 matches.
