New Delhi, Apr 2 (IBNS): Former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Monday received Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award of India, from President Ram Nath Kovind, media reports said.

Dhoni got the award on the day India completed its seven years of 2011 World Cup win under the leadership of the former skipper.

The then Indian captain had a major role in winning the World Cup final in 2011.

He made a significant contribution of an unbeaten 91 to help India clinch the title after a long wait of 28 years.

Dhoni, who is also referred to as captain cool, made his debut in 2004 against Bangladesh.

Though his initial matches were not that great, an innings of 148 runs against Pakistan at Visakhapatnam made him a cricket star overnight.

After his maiden hundred, Dhoni never looked back but kept on creating records.

He became the Indian captain in the T20 World Cup and led his team to lift the trophy in 2007.

Later, his graph as a captain kept on rising and became the only Indian captain to win all International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments.

Though Dhoni hanged his boot as a the skipper a year ago, he still continues to be a crucial man for his national team in the limited overs game.

Dhoni is just few runs away from registering 10,000 ODI runs, a feat achieved by only three Indian batsmen like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid.
