MS Dhoni's conflict of interest: BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya clarifies his stand

Kolkata/ Mumbai, June 20 (IBNS) BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya on Saturday clarified that he was 'misquoted' regarding the news that the board is probing Indian ODI and T20 skipper MS Dhoni for his alleged conflict of interest involving sports management firm Rhiti Sports Management Private Limited.

Dhoni's association with Rhiti Sports Management Private Limited has raised the  charges against the Indian cricketer under whose leadership the country had won the World Cup in 2011.

In a statement, Dalmiya said: "It appears that I have been misquoted as far as Mr. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is concerned."

"I had said that the subject matter of disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Ajit Chandila is presently pending for final decision before the Disciplinary Committee of the Board," he said.

"When I was asked about Mr. Dhoni’s involvement with M/s Rhiti Sports, I only said that I intend to implement the decision of the BCCI earlier obtained in 2013 when I had chaired the Working Committee Meeting of the BCCI on 28th of July 2013 at Taj Bengal Hotel in Kolkata that all players would have to submit declarations on their involvement / interest in any sports management companies, if any," the President said.

A media report said the BCCI has initiated a probe into Dhoni's alleged conflict of interest involving Rhiti Sports Management Private Limited.

The report also quoted Dalmiya as confirming the development and saying  the matter is with the disciplinary committee.

Sports marketing firm Rhiti Sports Management Pvt. Ltd. had earlier said Dhoni holds no stake in the company.

The company, however, said the Indian captain was a shareholder for a short period of time.

"We at Rhiti Sports Management Pvt Ltd are greatly aggrieved at the widespread media reports regarding alleged conflict of interest of MSD," Rhiti Sports Chairman and Managing Director Arun Pandey earlier said in a statement.

"As on date, MSD holds no shareholding in Rhiti Sports Management (P) Ltd. However, it is made clear that shareholding was allotted to MSD on 22.03.2013 only to secure certain old outstandings which were due for more than one year," Pandey said.

"Further, the payments were cleared in April 2013 and the shareholding was transferred back to promoter of the company on 26.04.2013," he said.
