New India cricket coach Kumble says they are going to West Indies to win
Bangalore, June 29 (IBNS) Team India's new coach Anil Kumble said it is a great honor to be back in the dressing room of the team with young players and they are going to West Indies - where India will play four Tests- to win.
"I have played with some of them [team members now], mentored some of them. It is a great honor to be back in the Indian dressing room," he told reporters at a press conference in Bangalore.
"We are going to West indies to win," he said adding that he will help the captain with strategy and help the Indian bowlers.
He said the fielding stands out now and the players are all young and they have all experiences of playing at highest level. He said a player like Virat Kohli played 40 test matches.
He said the team is a combination of experience and youth. "Wonderful to see such exuberance and agility," he said.
India will play four Tests in West Indies.
Anil Kumble and Ravi Shastri were in contention for the role of the coach. Kumble said he also called Shastri after the selection.
Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, all former players, shouldered responsibilities for selection.
A right-arm leg spin bowler, Kumble, who was also India team Test captain, took 619 wickets in Test cricket and remains the third-highest wicket taker—only behind Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne—as of 2015.
