New Zealand beat India by six wickets to take 1-0 lead
The match which could have emerged as the perfect finisher for India skipper Virat Kohli, who played his 200th ODI, ended with the New Zealand batsmen walking out of the park with smile on their faces.
After India posted 280 runs for the loss of four wickets, New Zealand were struggling at 80 runs for the loss of three wickets after 17.2 overs.
Martin Guptill (32), Colin Munro (28) and skipper Kane Williamson (6) had returned to pavilion by then.
Latham hammered eight boundaries and two sixes while Taylor smashed eight boundaries as both the batsmen eventually changed the course of the match.
By the time, Taylor departed, New Zealand had nearly won the match.
Both the Kiwi batsmen added 200 runs to their fourth wicket partnership.
New Zealand reached 284 runs for the loss of four wickets to take 1-0 lead in the series.
Kumar, Bumrah,Kuldeep Yadav and Pandya picked up a wicket each but could not ensure a victory for the home side.
India posted 280 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the first ODI match against New Zealand here on Sunday.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli smashed 121 runs off 126 balls, hammering nine boundaries and two sixes in his knock. He scored his 31st century. He is just behind Sachin Tendulkar (49) now.
It was Kohli's memorable knock on the park that helped India set a competitive total on the scorecard.
After Rohit Sharma (20) and Shikhar Dhawan (9) departed, India were struggling at 2-29 at one point in the match.
Kohli and his sensible knock helped India in settling down the innings which was disturbed in the middle.
MS Dhoni (25), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (26) and Dinesh Karthik (37) contributed with their willows but could not convert the knock to big innings.
New Zealand's Trent Boult picked up four wickets while Tim Southee managed three wickets in the match.
