One killed, three injured in Udalguri blast

Guwahati, Apr 12 (IBNS) : One civilian was killed and three others were injured in a powerful explosion in Assam's Udalguri district on Sunday morning, police said.

The explosion took place at Borjhar area near Orang in the BTAD district on the wee hours of Sunday.

BTAD IGP Dr LR Bisnoi said that, a scrap dealer found a metal like object in scraps on Saturday evening and unaware it was a bomb.

"When he hit it with a hammer on Sunday morning, it was exploded and the scrap dealer died on spot, " the top police official said.

Other three persons were also injured in the explosion.

The deceased person was identified as Ram Chandra Barman.

The injured persons- Gopal Das, Sitarani Das and Pawan Dey- were admitted nearby hospital.

Top police and army officials had rushed to the area and started investigation into the incident.

"Suspected militants had been taken the bomb to explode it during BTC election, " a top police official of Udalguri district said.

The incident occurred at a time when the state witnessed the declaration of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election result.

Hagrama Mahilary led BPF had captured 20 seats in 40 seats BTC Council election which result had declared on Saturday .

Apart from BPF, PCDR had captured six council constituencies, AIUDF and Sanmilita Janagoshthiya Eikyamancha captured four seats each, three by ABSS, one by BJP and two by Independent candidates.

The third BTC election was held on Apr 8.
