Pune FC-SGFI Nationals: Maharashtra U17 girls enter last 8

Pune, Apr 28 (IBNS): Maharashtra Under-17 girls romped into the quarterfinals with an all-win record in the Pune FC-59th SGFI National Football Championship, at the Balewwadi Sports Complex on Monday.

Having beaten Andhra Pradesh (2-0) late Sunday night, the girls extended their winning run by scoring a 2-0 win over Punjab. Striking a goal in each half, the first by Komal Deokule (15th) and Karen Paes (30th) Maharashtra finished with the distinction of topping their group without conceding a goal. Earlier, the hosts had blanked Gujarat (9-0). 

In the only Under-19 girls pre-quarterfinal encounter played today, Chattishgarh edged out Pudduchery 2-1 via the tie-breaker after ending the first half goalless.

In the ensuing tie-breaker, Vandana Kumari and Shahin gained success, while Valdrin reduced for the losers.
