Rahul Dravid's tips changed my batting since 2004: Younis Khan
New Delhi, Sept 19 (IBNS): Recalling his memory, former Pakistani cricketer Younis Khan has revealed how ex-Indian skipper Rahul Dravid's tips in 2004 shaped his batting in the following years.
Speaking ahead of the fierce India-Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup on Wednesday, Younis recalled an incident from the 2004 Champions Trophy when he had asked Dravid to guide him in his batting.
Younis told India Today, "I remember that I had approached Rahul Dravid during the Champions Trophy in 2004 in England. I had asked him to spend five minutes with me.
"Rahul Dravid, who was then a top Indian player, came to my room. I was stunned. As I kept his tips in mind, my game changed in the coming years," he added.
Younis also suggested the present Indian cricketers, who were widely criticised for poor performance on English soil this summer, to approach former cricketers like Mohammad Azharuddin, Sunil Gavaskar and others for the betterment of their game.
"They (Indian cricketers) should go to the legendary Indian cricketers by themselves only," the former Pakistani middle-order batsman said.
After losing the One Day International (ODI) series 1-2, India were defeated by England in the five-match Test series 1-4.
Though the Indian bowlers maintained their standard, the performance of the batting unit, excluding skipper Virat Kohli, came under the scanner.
Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly slammed head coach Ravi Shastri, saying he will have to take the responsibility of the defeat along with batting coach Sanjay Bangar.
Gavaskar even pointed out mistakes which Kohli had committed on-field as a skipper.
Meanwhile, India and Pakistan, who had defeated Hong Kong in their respective opening matches of the Asia Cup, will meet in Dubai for the first time since the 2017 Champions Trophy final.
