Rahul Johri not found guilty of sexual harassment, to resume office as BCCI CEO

This happened as the Supreme Court Appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) was divided on the action to be taken against him.

The CoA comprised of Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji.

A three-member independent panel found Johri not guilty of the crime.

The woman made the allegation as a part of the ongoing #MeToo campaign.

While two members of the inquiry committee recommended that no action be taken against Johri, a third member recommended that he should "undergo some form of gender sensitivity counselling/ training."

Based on the findings of Justice Sharma and Barkha Singh, chairman of CoA Vinod Rai stated that "no adverse action is warranted" against Johri, who should be allowed to resume office.

"The clear inference from this recommendation is that, going forward, Mr. Johri needs to be counselled as aforesaid but there is no recommendation to take any other action against him," Vinod Rai was quoted in media as opining on Gowda's recommendations.

However, Diana Edulji disagreed with the findings and recommendations of Justice Sharma and Barkha Singh.

Referring to the findings and recommendations of Veena Gowda, Edulji stated that the verdict of the panel was a 2:1 split.

She was of the view that Johri should be asked to resign.

She had accused Johri of taking advantage of the victim by offering a job opportunity.
