Record entries for Tata Steel Tolly Juniors Cup 2014
Kolkata, June 10 (IBNS): A record-breaking number of juniors, exhibiting a great advert for the growth of junior golf in the East, will be teeing off at Par -70 Tollygunge Golf Club here on Wednesday.
As many as 102 hopefuls will be battling it out to earn full 45 points on the Tata Steel East Zone Feeder and Sub-Junior Tour.
Fourteen-year-old Hassan Rahman Khandokar of Protouch, who leads the Category A&B (combined) Order of Merit is locked in a tight battle with Bibek Sardar, also of Protouch, to emerge victorious with Rohit Kumar Bouri of Jamshedpur close on their heels as the Feeder Tour, which serves as a finishing school for those looking to graduate on to the Indian Golf Union’s Junior Tour.
Another Protouch lad, 12-year-old Sandeep Kumar Yadav has completely dominated the Category C honours by emerging victorious at all the three previous events this season. Rajib Ali, who finished runner up to him in all the three events, follows him on the Oder of Merit by 30 points.
The junior Category D is also locked into a fantastic duel between Arav Sanghavi and Joysurjo Dey who are separated at the top by a meager 2 Order of Merit points.
The Tata Steel Tolly Juniors Cup 2014 marks the first time the playing field has crossed 100 breaking the previous record entries achieved at last month’s event at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club which saw 89 juniors fight it out.
