Ricky Ponting appointed to coach Australian T20 side

Sydney, Jan 1 (IBNS): Former Australian World Cup winning captain Ricky Ponting has been appointed as the coach of the national team for the home T20 series against Sri Lanka.

"Ricky Ponting will return to Australian cricket as a coach, taking on an assistant role with the national Twenty20 team in February's series against Sri Lanka," Cricket Australia website said.

The head coach for the series will be Justin Langer.

Jason Gillespie will remain the other  assistant coach for the series.

"I always said when I retired that I wanted to get back involved and what better way to do it than alongside a couple of my best mates in cricket, Justin Langer and Jason Gillespie," Ponting was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia website.
