Sachin Tendulkar condoles death of Jagmohan Dalmiya

Kolkata/Mumbai, Sept 20 (IBNS): Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday condoled the demise of BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya saying that the latter had worked hard to excel as a cricket administrator.

"Was touched by his efforts to make my penultimate Test at Eden Gardens very special. RIP Jagmohan Dalmiya," tweeted Tendulkar.

He said: "Will always cherish his encouragement & support over the years. Worked hard for the game of cricket & excelled as an administrator."

"Heartfelt condolences to the family & friends of Jagmohan Dalmiya. Had met him in June. little did I realise that it would be the last," he posted.

Former ICC chief and present Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Jagmohan Dalmiya died on Sunday evening in a private hospital in Kolkata, a hospital spokesperson said.

Dalmiya was admitted to the B M Birla Heart Research Centre here recently after he complained of chest pain. He was 75.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited and the hospital and ahead of the visit tweeted: "Sad. Jagmohan Dalmiya ji passes away. He was a giant amongst sports administrators, a true lover of Bengal."

BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur condoled the demise of the cricket administrator and tweeted: "The greatest sports administrator of India has passed away,an era ends. A personal loss to me & Indian cricket. @BCCI #RIPDalmiyaJi."

In June 2013, he was appointed as the interim president of the BCCI after N. Srinivasan stepped aside till the probe on Srinivasan's son-in-law's alleged involvement in spot-fixing in the 2013 Indian Premier League was completed.

Srinivasan resumed the presidency in October 2013. But Dalmiya returned as full time BCCI president after a 10-year gap, replacing N. Srinivasan, on Mar 2, 2015.

He had also earlier  served as the chief of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
