Johannesburg/UNI: South Africa fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the three-match Test series against India due to a persistent injury, the Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed on Tuesday.

'The Proteas speedster has not recovered adequately for the expected Test match bowling loads and is currently consulting with specialists to manage and advise on his recovery," CSA said in a release.

The Proteas have commenced their final preparation ahead of the first match starting on Boxing Day.

The board added that no replacement player will be added to South Africa's Test squad.

This is South Africa's first Test series since their successful tour to the West Indies in July this year, where they won by 2-0.

The first Test between India and South Africa will be played from December 26 in Centurion. The Test series is part of the 2021-2023 ICC World Test Championship.
