Test: England openers make positive start, take 163 runs lead

Rajkot, Nov 12 (IBNS): Taking 163 runs lead, England finished the fourth day's play at 114 runs for the loss of no wickets against India in the first Test of the series here on Saturday.

India were earlier bowled out for 488 runs.

Taking a 49 runs first innings lead, England openers-Alaister Cook (46*) and Haseeb Hameed (62*)- finished the day's game without any damage.

The Indian bowlers failed to disrupt the British batsmen and their flow to score runs.

Earlier, India were bowled out for 488 runs.

Murali Vijay (126), Cheteshwar Pujara  (124), Virat Kohli (40), Wriddhiman Saha (35) and R Ashwin (70) contributed with their willows but could not cross the first innings score which was set by the visitors.


Adil Rashid of England picked up four wickets for England.
