Dubai, Oct 15 (IBNS): Thailand scored a narrow one-wicket win over Nepal on Friday in the ICC Women’s World Cup Asia Qualifier 2016 to ensure a berth in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2017 to be played in February.

Thailand’s fourth win in five matches took it to eight points in the double-league format tournament and it will now feature in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2017 along with five other regional qualifiers and the four bottom-placed teams from the ongoing ICC Women’s Championship (IWC).

Four teams from the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2017 will join four direct qualifiers from the IWC in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 to be held in England and Wales from June 26 to July 23.

Chanida Sutthiruang was the star performer for Thailand with an all-round performance of 27 not out and two for 24 as the team chased a target of 109 with eight balls to spare.

“I’m delighted that we have qualified for the World Cup qualifier. Our team performed very well and our coach (Janak Champika Gamage of Sri Lanka) kept guiding and motivating us to give our best on the field. We will work harder for the Asia Cup next month as well as the World Cup qualifier,” captain Sornnarin Tipoch said.

In another match, China beat Hong Kong by 18 runs as both these teams as well as Nepal were level at two wins each from five matches with one match each to go.
