Top cueists post easy wins on Day 1

Kolkata, Jan 12 (IBNS): The big names of Indian billiards – Pankaj Advani, Sourav Kothari and Rupesh Shah – posted easy wins in their respective group matches on the first day of the Billiards main draw at the BRC Gloster National Billiards & Snooker Championship 2015 at the Bengal Rowing Club on Monday.

In Group A, defending Champion Sourav Kothari of PSPB kicked off his campaign with a straight win over S. Shankar Rao of Andhra Pradesh.

Though Shankar Rao tried to hold Sourav back in the first two games, the latter sealed the match with an unfinished break of 100 in the third game. In the second game which witnessed some exciting moments, Sourav beat C. Vijayaram of Tamil Nadu.

In Group H, Pankaj Advani gave a flawless display to register comfortable wins over Subodh Lahiri of Uttar Pradesh and Ranjit M.N. of Telengana. Advani, expectedly the cynosure of all eyes at the Championship, scored two century breaks against Ranjit and one against Lahiri.

In Group E, Rupesh Shah of PSPB beat Anupam Jha of Bihar 3-0 with the scoreline reading 101(101)-00, 104(96)-00, 105(45)-14.

In Group C, B. Bhaskar of Karnataka played a chanceless break of 100 to beat Ketan Chawla of Madhya Pradesh 3-1 while Dhvaj Haria of PSPB beat Aditya Agrawal of RSPB 3-2

In Group F, Brijesh Damani of PSPB beat Anseth Pareira of Jharkhand 3-0, and followed it up with another 3-0 win over D. Rajkumar of Karnataka.

In Group B, Alok Kumar of PSPB beat Rakesh R. Pradhan of Orissa 3-0 with the scores reading 100-80, 102(62)-03, 100-30.

In Group D, Dhruv Sitwala of PSPB beat S. Mumtaz Ali of Jharkhand 3-0 with the scoreline at 101-37, 100(62)-32, 101-33.
