U19 CWC: India set Ireland a target of 269 runs

Dhaka, Jan 28 (IBNS) Starting out their U19 World Cup campaign, the Indian cricket team scored 268 runs for the loss of 9 wickets against Ireland here on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Ireland captain Jack Tector won the coin toss and asked India to bat first.

The Indian team were in all sorts of trouble as their skipper the in-form Ishan Kishan was out for a duck in the third ball of the innings with the scoreboard barely registering a run.

Though Ricky Bhui and Rishab Pant played with caution to steady the ship, Pant wasted 22 balls for his 6 runs.

With 46 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, the team suffered yeat another blow as two runs later another wicket in the form of Bhui (39) fell.

At 55 for the loss of 4 wickets India was at the receiving end of things until a 110-run partnership for the 5th wicket by Sarfaraz Khan and Washington Sundar bailed them out.

Both Sundar (62) and Khan (74) hit fluent half-centuries to take the team's total past the 150 run mark.

A late surge by Zeeshan Ansari (36) provided the impetus and India finished off with 268 runs.

For Ireland, Joshua Little and Rory Anders picked up 3 wickets each.

One each was picked up by Gary McClintock and Harry Tector.
