US Open: Marin Cilic lifts title

New York, Sept 9 (IBNS): Shattering the dreams of Asian people, Croatia's Marin Cilic won the US Open title by beating Kei Nishikori of Japan in the final.

Cilic won his first Grand Slam title by defeating his opponent 6-3 6-3 6-3.

He became the first Croat to win a major title since compatriot and coach Goran Ivanisevic won the Wimbledon  title in 2001.

Cilic had reached the final of the major Grand Slam event by defeating major players Tomas Berdych and Roger Federer.
