We want to see Clarke paying: Lehmann

Melbourne, Feb 4 (IBNS): Australian coach Darren Lehmann has said the side is anticipating the return of Michael Clarke.

"I think as a whole group we know he's ready to come back and play, and we want him playing; he's captain of our country and he's going to lead us really well in the World Cup, so fingers crossed he gets through the next couple of games and he's right to go," Lehmann was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia website.

"At the end of the day, he's captain of our country and we want him playing in the World Cup. Tactically he's excellent, batting-wise he's second to none when he's in form … so we've got to make sure he's right to go, which he will be," he said.

"We're impressed where he's at, and we're quite confident he's going to be ready to go," he said.

Clarke underwent a hamstring surgery in December.

He is likely to play for Cricket Australia XI against Bangladesh on Thursday.

"Clarke will play for a Cricket Australia XI against Bangladesh at Allan Border Field on Thursday, having already batted for an extended period in making a half-century for his Sydney grade team Western Suburbs last Saturday," the Cricket Australia website said.

The World Cup, which is hosted by Australia and New Zealand, will commence from Feb 14.
