Sousse, Tunisia, June 27 (IBNS) A gunman disguised as a tourist opened fire at a Tunisian hotel on Friday, killing 39 people of different nationalities in horrific spree of mass murder for which Islamic State claimed the responsibility.

Terrified tourists ran for safety after the attacker started firing from his gtsun that he had hidden under an umbrella at the Imperial Marhaba in Sousse, 140 km south of the capital Tunis.

Media reports said police later shot the gunman dead.

Those killed include people from the UK, Germany and Belgium.

The attack took place close  on the day a decapitated body was found in France, a suicide bomber killed two dozen people at a mosque in Kuwait and at least 145 civilians were reported killed by Islamic State militants in northern Syria.

In a statement on social media, Islamic State claimed responsibility for the Tunisian attack. It had urged its followers to step up assaults during Ramadan, the holy Muslim month.
