Noakhali: The International Society for Krishna Consciousness also known as ISKCON on Saturday said its temple in Noakhali area of Bangladesh was attacked when one of the devotees was killed on Friday, a day which marked the end of Durga Puja.

The deceased person was identified as Partha Das.

His body was found in a pond.

"It is with great grief that we share the news of a ISKCON member, Partha Das, who was brutally killed yesterday by a mob of over 200 people. His body was found in a pond next to the temple," the group tweeted.

ISKCON said its temple had suffered 'significant' damage  during the attack.

"ISKCON temple & devotees were violently attacked today by a mob in Noakhali, Bangladesh. Temple suffered significant damage & the condition of a devotee remains critical," read the tweet issued by the group.

"We call on the Govt of Bangladesh to ensure the safety of all Hindus & bring the perpetrators to justice," read the tweet.

Bangladesh witnessed a violent Durga Puja this year as several Hindu temples and Durga Puja pandals were attacked and damaged by mob.

The attack on ISKCON temple occurred despite assurance by PM Sheikh Hasina earlier in the day that  those who attacked Hindu temples will be hunted down.

She also told the Hindu community of the nation that  they have equal rights to celebrate their festivals and should consider Bangladesh as their home.
